Swimming 06:32

about

Adaptogen 002 opens its account with ‘Panama Window Part A’. An elastic bass line and rubbery kick drum form the basis which slowly marches into gently woven ghostly tones, calmly washing over the top of its foundation. A multitude of pads and textures combine to create an ethereal feel and harmonic cloud to float within while precisely placed delayed and reverberated percussion, creates a space that further catalyses its outer atmosphere. ‘Panama Window Part A’s true charm lies in its patience and ability to bloom, captivate and hypnotize with equal measure.

‘Panama Window Part B’ continues where ‘Part A’ left off and leads in with a broken beat time signature, diving directly into a deep wonderland of mysticism. Deep tones pulsate gently against tonal washes and atmospheres while decaying textures swirl and pan into the distance creating a gentle rolling rhythm, directly complementing the main elements of its structure. All the elements here combine elegantly to produce a sophisticated and visceral landscape.

‘Swimming’ continues with dark drenched tones, a sinister bass line and a series of layered dynamic hats, while still maintains that undertone that is prevalent throughout the EP. By combining further layers of razor sharp percussion anchored by a strong undulating bass line, Noakes creates a series of atmospheric suspended moments, while all along flowing pads waver and ripple toward the horizon. If anything, ‘Swimming‘ feels like you’ve been propelled at speed into the centre of a dream, despite its slower stride and tempo. Creating the perfect juxtaposition of tension and pace.

Adaptogen 002 is far more than just another chapter in the Australian producers musical journey. It’s further evidence in the maturity of a well established sound with tracks that would arguably sit just as comfortably alongside well known European names exploring the realm of deep and atmospheric techno.
